These days, many of us are in the process of finding ways to
make our home more relaxing for ourselves and our families, and more impressive
to guests who stop by for dinner or perhaps even an extended visit. The
possibilities for renovations are endless, from painting to remodeling a room, from
new carpet to doorways, even adding lights and sound systems. When it comes
down to it, what we're really looking for is
something that is both classy and eye-catching that won't
break the bank. Many of the things that people associate with elegance are out
of the average person's price range and require a great deal of maintenance in
order to keep them looking as fresh as when they were purchased. With our busy
lives today, most of us simply don't have the time. But sometimes changing one
thing can help us to everything in a new light.
Where Do You Look?
The first thing to consider when contemplating a change is to decide what
about the room captures the eye. It doesn't necessarily have to be the biggest
item or the most expensive, but what matters is how it is perceived. For
instance, painting the walls a bright red after previously keeping them dark
blue will allow all the other objects in the room to take on a new life as they
are viewed in their new surroundings. The same principle can easily be applied
to the floor, but often times with even more impressive results. Incorporating
travertine tiles in your home is one of the most impressive options for transforming
a room from blah to bam!

Taste on a Dollar Store Budget
Many of us feel that marble brings elegance and class into any structure and
becomes a part of. The smooth finish and feeling of age send powerful messages
to the brain of quality and refinement. But like so many of us have discovered,
often times the most well-known products are out of our price range. Enter the
solution of travertine tiles. This stone closely resembles its more affluent
counter-part, but is instead made from the sediments and minerals released from
hot springs which fuse with limestone and come in a number of shades within the
brown and grey family. Typically used as flooring, travertine tiles can also be
applied to walls, shower stalls, bathroom counters and even as a backsplash in
the kitchen behind the sink or stove. A unique and interesting aspect of these
tiles is that they come in different textures. Of course, for the floor and
shower one would want a smooth surface, but depending on the finish you choose
it is quite possible to have a rough and rocky feel not unlike brick when used
as a backdrop. An interesting note is that the Roman Coliseum was made entirely
from travertine and, since that structure stands tall today, it is a testament
to the durability and longevity of the stone.
